The Directorate of Environment (DoE), Chittagong on Monday observed the World Environment Day with various programmes including a discussion meeting.
In observance of the day, DoE held a discussion meeting on the day’s theme “Connecting People to Nature” at Theatre Institute Chittagong (TIC) on Monday afternoon.
DoE director Azadur Rahman Mallik presided over the meeting while Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Shankar Shaha attended the meeting as the chief guest and Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammad Zillur Rahman Chowdhury as the special guest.
Mohammad Jafar Alam, member (admin and planning) of Chittagong Port Authority, presented the key note paper on the day’s theme while Prof Dr Mohammad Kamal Hossain of the Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences of Chittagong University (CU) and Prof Dr Mohammad Monjurul Kibria of CU Zoology Department, among others, participated in the discussion meeting.
Later, the chief guest distributed prizes among the winners in drawing, debate, essay and slogan writing competitions.
Earlier, DoE brought out a colorful rally participated by the people from all walks of life including students, activists of NGOs, environmentalists and representatives of several professional bodies.
Meanwhile, Chittagong University Journalists Association (CUJA) launched a tree plantation programme on the campus to mark the day.CU Proctor Mohammad Ali Asgar inaugurated the tree plantation programme.
