The Dhaka University (DU) authorities on Tuesday night permanently expelled 15 students from the institution over fraudulence in admission tests.
The decision was taken at a syndicate meeting of the university, said Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman.
Among them, there are two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).Mohiuddin Rana of Physics Department and Assistant Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Abdullah Al Mamun of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department and Theatre and Debate Affairs Secretary of Amar Ekushey Hall BCL, and Navim Anjum Tonoy of Geography and Environment Science Department were the masterminds of the digital fraud group.
Twelve of them got admitted to the university last year through fraudulence, while the rest were members of a gang that helped admission seekers take the entry test either by providing leaked questions or sending answers to students through electronic devices during the admission tests.
The 12 other expelled students are Nahid Iftekhar of Political Science, Md Bayezid of Psychology, Md Azizul Hakim of World Religion and Culture, Prosenjit Das of Sanskrit, Fardin Ahmed Sabbir of the Institute of Health Economics, Tanveer Ahmed Mollick of Economics, Rifat Hossain of Political Science, Rafsan Karim of Islamic Studies, Akhinur Rahman Anik of Bangla, TM Tanveer Hossain of History, Munshi Mohammad Sujaur Rahman of Institute of Education and Research, and Nazmul Hasan Naeem of Pali and Buddhist Studies.
All of them got enrolled into the university in the 2016-2017 academic session.
