More impetus is needed to development of entrepreneurship particularly women through small and medium enterprises (SME) financing to accelerate the economy at both rural and urban areas.
“Field level bankers have a vital role to promote and explore the promising sector”, said Md Awal Khan, Managing Director of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), told on Wednesday.
He narrated enormous significance of more development of entrepreneurship and increased financing to the SME sector.
He was addressing the inaugural session of a four-day training course on ‘Entrepreneurship Development and SME Financing’ for 30 mid-level officers of RAKUB at its training institute as chief guest.
With Principal of the institute Mozammel Haque in the chair, faculty members Mobinur Rashid Sarker, Ronojit Kumar Sen and SM Ahsanullah also spoke.
Awal Khan said the SME sector can play an effective role to economic progress, employment generation and poverty reduction. If the SMEs are properly financed, the nation would be benefited, he added.
He asked the training people to expedite the RAKUB’s SME credit program through intensifying motivational, awareness building and monitoring activities to make the program a success.
The bank disbursed Taka 125.92 crore among 2572 borrowers during the last fiscal. Main thrust of the loan scheme is to create an intensive investment scope for the agro-based SMEs in the light of the government industrial policy and for supplementing the government’s efforts to attain food security and economic emancipation.
