Entire Rangpur exhibits success of social forestry

Five districts of Rangpur division have become entirely green. In the last 5 years, Rangpur Divisional Forest Department planted about 42 lakh saplings of different species of trees. In five years, it has distributed dividends of Tk four crore among the beneficiaries.
According to forest department sources, social forestry is being carried out in 35 upazilas of Rangpur, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Kurigram and Gaibandha districts. In the last 5 years, under the initiative of the forest department, 25 lakh 8 thousand 333 saplings of different species have been planted by the beneficiaries. Besides, 16 lakh 14 thousand 990 tree saplings have been distributed among the people free of cost in memory of 3 million martyrs and on the occasion of the birth centenary of the nationalist Bangabandhu Sheikh MujiburRahman. These saplings have been planted by the people in the place of their choice. Steep gardens have created 1,063 kilometers.
Block has gardened 250 hectares. Besides, 3 crore 73 lakh 69 thousand 365 rupees dividend has been distributed among the beneficiaries and others.
Dhaka Assistant Chief Forest Officer Mohammad MahamudulHasan inspected the gardens planted on both sides of the Irrigation Canal of the Water Development Board at Kursha Union in Taraganj Upazila on March 18, the centenary of Bangabandhu’s birth. A: Halim, a member of Taraganj’s environmental movement, said the Rangpur Forest Department has planted several saplings in the last five years. Now the upazila has become a green upazila.
Ismail Hossain, Mohammad Ali and Suruj Mia, farmers of Gadai village in Kaunia, said that the trees planted five years ago by the forest department along the side of Gadai dam have grown by logging.
The milk of the dam is now a green ceremony. Mosharraf Hossain, range officer of the divisional office, said Dhaka Assistant Chief Forest Officer Mohammad Mahamudul Hasan inspected the gardens planted on both sides of the Irrigation Canal of the Water Development Board at Kursha Union in Taraganj Upazila on March 17, the birth centenary of Bangabandhu.
Divisional Forest Officer Md. MatluburRahman said, “Social forestry has been widely noticed among the people in this area.” The seedlings that were planted 5 years ago have started to grow with proper maintenance. The districts are turning green.
