Ensuring quality higher edn main challenge for Govt : UGC Chairman

The Bangladesh University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan said in London on Tuesday that the greatest asset of Bangladesh is its young population and if they can be transformed into human resources with proper planning and guidance they can steer Bangladesh into the next level of development, says a press release.
 He was speaking at the Going Global 2017 International Conference organised by the British Council in London.
The 3- day conference began on May 22 at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre where nine hundred participants from more than eighty countries participated. The theme of this year’s conference is Global cities: Connecting talent, driving change.
This year Professor Mannan has been selected as a designated speaker. In his presentation the UGC Chairman highlighted the achievements in the education sector under the current government and informed the participants that Bangladesh is the only country in the world where on day one of each year every school children is provided free text books by the government.
He also informed that currently ensuring quality higher education is the main challenge of the government and the University Grants Commission and to institutionalize the quality aspect recently an Accreditation Bill has been passed in the parliament and the government has announced that the process of transforming UGC into Higher Education Commission is in the process.
