Speakers at a discussion unequivocally called for ensuring education, health care, equal rights, safety and security for every girl child besides stopping child marriage and all sorts of violence against them.
Ensuring equal rights to the girl child can be the crucial means of making them equally worthy citizens besides obtaining substantial and sustainable development of the nation.
They came up with the observation while addressing the National Day of the Daughters Child- 2021 at the conference hall of Shaheed Nazmul Haque Girls High School in the city today.
The District administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organized the meeting discussing and devising ways and means on how to ensure equal rights to the daughters’ child.
Deputy Director of Local Government Division Shahana Akhter Jahan addressed the meeting as chief guest, while social worker Shaheen Akhter Rainy and Headmaster of the school Abbas Uddin spoke special guests with Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs Shirin Sobnom in the chair.
Shahana said ensuring safety and security for girls through combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against them is very important for the girls to become worthy citizens. Sexual harassment restricts girl’s rights to education, rights to mobility, rights to freedom and rights to life.
Terming child marriage as the major violence and gross violation of human rights, she said there is no alternative to prevent the child marriages. Community support is very important to attain the cherished goal, she added.
