The Bangladesh Bank has directed all scheduled banks to ensure transport facilities for bankers during the ongoing lockdown. Failing to do so, banks are to provide employees with a reasonable sum of money as a transport allowance.
The central bank issued a directive in this regard on Thursday, saying it will be effective as long as the government announced restrictions remain in effect. Bangladesh went into a strict lockdown on 14 April, in an effort to tackle the worsening coronavirus situation.
During the lockdown, the Central Bank instructed all banks to operate on a limited scale to keep the wheels of commerce rolling. The directive said headquarters of banks, all authorised dealer (AD) branches, and head offices in district towns, should be kept open during the lockdown.
