Speakers at an open union budget announcement ceremony have stressed ensuring participation of the common people in formulating and implementing union budget to enhance democracy at the grassroots levels.
They were addressing at the Taka 2.43 crore budget announcement ceremony of Chandanpat union under Sadar upazila on the union parishad premises here in the district on Friday afternoon.
Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Bobby attended the open budget announcement ceremony as the chief guest with Chandanpat Union Parishad Chairman Aminur Rahman in the chair.
Sadar Upazila Vice-chairman Shahinur Alam and former Principal Professor Abdul Hakim addressed the occasion as special guests.
President of Chandanpat union Awami League (AL) Mossarraf Hossain, union members Sirajul Islam, Raju Mian, Aminur Rahman, Sabuz Mian, Dulal Mian, Abdul Monnaf, Ziaur Rahman, Ashrafuzzaman, Habiba Khatun and Dulali Begum also spoke.
About 2,500 people from all walks in the society, including freedom fighters, teachers, students, youths, farmers, NGO and women community activists, villagers, men, women and adolescents and elite were present in the ceremony.
After the two-hour long live open budget discussion, Secretary of Chandanpat Union Parishad Moksedur Rahman announced the Taka 2.43 crore annual development budget for the 2015-2016 fiscal.
Taking part in the open discussions, the local people focused on the services being provided at union digital centre, local economic potentials and prospects in agriculture, animal husbandry, poultry, diary, handlooms and cottage industries sectors.
They put special emphasis on conducting separate development activities to adapt with the adverse impacts of the climate change, uplift programmes for the women community to ensure their economic and social empowerment.
They called for involving more rural women with SMEs, handloom and cottage industries, animal husbandry, poultry, other vocational trades and income generating activities in changing of their economic condition.
