Ensure migrants’ rights for increasing remittance

Speakers at a post-rally discussion here have stressed for ensuring rights, dignity and justice of migrants and exporting skilled human resources to keep remittance inflow increasing for enhancing national economy.
They put emphasis on adoption of long-term planning and making the migration system easier using the latest information and communication technologies to ensure safe migration for overseas jobseekers and proper rehabilitation after their return.
They were addressing the discussion by district administration, BRAC under its Safe Migration Programme and District Employment and Human Resources Office on Thursday in observance of the International Migrants’ Day-2014.
Earlier, the administration, District Employment and Human Resources Office and Rangpur BRAC Office with different banks, NGOs and Pairaband Returned Expatriates’ Development Forum jointly brought out a colourful rally in the city.
Deputy Commissioner Farid Ahammad attended the discussion at his conference room as the chief guest.
Additional Police Super Abdullah Al Faruk attended the occasion as the special guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Shahidul Islam in the chair.
Assistant Director of District Employment and Manpower Officer Amena Parveen delivered welcome speech.
Vice-president of Rangpur Branch of Islami Bank Limited Anwarul Haque, District BRAC Representative Abu Sayeed and General Secretary of Pairaband Returned Expatriates’ Development Forum Alhaj Shahidul Islam addressed, among others.
Government officials, returned expatriates, cheated jobseekers, overseas jobseekers, members of different expatriate workers’ associations, civil society members, public representatives, NGO executives and media workers were present.
The speakers narrated under what conditions the Bangladeshis have been working abroad and extensively contributing to the national economy though some of them are being cheated both at home and aboard.
They highly lauded the initiatives of BRAC that has been working for raising skill and expertise of overseas jobseekers and creating awareness so that common people were not cheated or harassed while migration through ensuring safer migration.
The chief guest stressed for turning the huge population into skilled human resources and discussed issues and procedures to be followed by the overseas jobseekers to avoid cheating and harassment before departing for abroad.
He said the migrating people have been increasing indexes of the national economy and stressed for comprehensive GO- NGO collaboration to keep the remittance inflow increasing onwards through ensuring safer migration.
