POLICE on Tuesday arrested a perverted father on charge of raping his 11-year-old daughter in Shiddhirganj area of Narayanganj. The ill-fated girl shared the incident with her mother accusing her father of the crime. A case was filed by the victim’s mother with local police station next day, Officer-in-Charge of Shiddhirganj Police Station said. In another incident, a man was sent to jail on Tuesday on charge of raping a five-year-old girl in Madhabpur upazila of Moulvibazar. According to the newspaper report, the girl was going to a nearby vegetable garden on Monday with her cousins when a drug-addict neighbour took the girl to a nearby jungle luring her with chocolates. The neighbour then raped the girl and fled the scene, leaving her unconscious, said the girl’s father. Officer-in-Charge of Madhabpur Police Station said the accused was arrested following a case filed by the victim’s father.
It’s not a lone instance where a daughter has been raped by her own father. Sometimes these types of crimes are committed by the step fathers. But when such acts are done by the biological fathers then it raises finger towards our moral and social abnormality. It’s a rational question that can arise in any person’s mind is what on earth would drive someone to sexually prey on their own flesh and blood?
On the other hand, sexual abuses by drug-addict neighbours are also too common in our society. Under the influence of alcohol or other drugs, a man can lose control and end up in doing such crime. In both cases, we see that the girls became the prey of their close ones, one was perverted father and another was drug-addict neighbour. It seems that there is no one in earth on whom the little girls could put trust.
Though there are laws in the country against the rape and child abuse, in most cases the laws are not applied properly against the culprits due to their social and political influence. In most cases, these incidents are kept hidden by the parents fearing social stigma. Sometimes, the police also show reluctance to take action against the culprits. We must say, the child abusers should be dealt with strong hand.
