Enhanced fish production through ensuring proper utilisation of the water bodies as well as latest technologies, involving the real fishermen, could cut poverty in attaining food security and improving rural economy.
Fisheries experts expressed the opinion at concluding ceremony of a two-day training course organised by the Department of Fisheries (DoF) for the fish farmers and fishermen at Badarganj upazila parishad auditorium in the district on Monday afternoon.
The DoF arranged the training under the ‘Expansion of Aquaculture Technology Services Up to Union Level Project’ to disseminate latest
aquaculture technologies on fish farming among the grassroots level fishermen and fish farmers to enhance fish production.
Divisional Deputy Director of the DoF Md Rakib Uddin Biswas attended and addressed the ceremony as the chief guest with Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer for Badarganj upazila Rabiul Alam Parvez in the chair.
District Fisheries Officer Dr Zillur Rahman addressed the event as the special guest. Fish farmers and fishermen from 10 unions under Badarganj upazila
participated in the training course to enhance their skill and expertise on fish farming adopting the latest technologies.
A number of participating successful fish farmers and fishermen also took part in the discussion and narrated their experience and success in increasing fish production.
The experts laid maximum emphasis on proper utilisation of water bodies, beels, canals, haors and flood plains and bringing those under fish cultivation ensuring the best use of all existing natural resources to make the country self-sufficient in fish production.
Dr Zillur Rahman put emphasis on transferring of the latest pisciculture technologies to the fish farmers also to protect the native fishes including small and indigenous ones for enhancing fish production to meet up the people’s increasing protein demand.
The chief guest suggested the field level fisheries officers for bringing all prevailing water bodies under proper management to boost fish production involving the fishermen and fish farmers to explore the tremendous prospect of the fisheries sector.
He called upon the rural people for increasing fish production to improve rural economy through achieving self-reliance after meeting their own nutritional demand in the process of making the country self-reliant on fish production at the earliest.
