Southern University vice-chancellor and urban planning Engineer Ali Ashraf (68) died of coronavirus infections.He died at the Evercare Hospital in Dhaka around 2:15 pm on Saturday last . He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. Engineer Ali Ashraf is the eldest son of the late Advocate Mohammad Nurul Huda of Fatikchhari. He was involved in various organizations including the former president of the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh, Chattogram unit and a life member of the Rotary Center.
The first namaz-e-janaza was held yesterday at the premises of Jamiatul Falah Jame Mosque after Zohar.
The second janaza will be held at Jahanpur in Fatikchhari, the village home.Prof Engineer M Ali Ashraf graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the then Chittagong Engineering College in 1978 and a postgraduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Kansas State University in the United States in 1984.
As a Professional Engineer he is registered by the Bangladesh Board of Professional Engineers. Deputy Minister for Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Bir Muktijoddha M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, General Secretary of Nagar Awami League AJM Nasir Uddin, Convener of Nagar BNP Dr. Shahadat Hossain moured at his death.
