AFP, Hobart :
England’s women’s team did what their men couldn’t by winning their Ashes series with a nine-wicket Twenty20 victory over Australia in Hobart on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, the home side made 150 for three from their 20 overs which England chased down scoring 151 for one with 13 balls to spare.
England captain Charlotte Edwards’ unbeaten knock of 92 earned her the player-of-the-match award.
With two WT20 international matches remaining in the multi- format series, England have an unassailable points lead of 10-4.
Australia needed to win the opening T20 match to keep the series alive but, after hopes were raised by two straight one-day wins, England retained the Ashes they won back at home last year.
England grabbed six points with their victory in the only Test and two each from a one-day and T20 win.
