England piled up a fighting total of 337 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs against India in their match of the ICC World Cup Cricket at Birmingham in England on Sunday.
England made a good start as openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow put on together 160 runs in the opening stand before Jason Roy was caught at the long-on by substitute Ravindra Jadeja off Kuldeep Yadav when England’s total was 160.
Bairstow notched up a terrific 111. His 109-ball innings was decorated with six sixes and 10 fours. It was Bairstow’s eighth ODI century.
Jason Roy hit a grand 66. His 57-ball innings was ornamented with seven fours and two sixes. It was Roy’s 16th ODI half-century.
After Roy’s dismissal, Bairstow and Joe Root contributed together 45 runs for the second wicket partnership before Bairstow was caught at the deep point by Rishabh Pant off Mohammad Shami when England’s score was 205 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Eoin Morgan (1) was caught by Kedar Jadhav off Mohammad Shami when England’s total was 207 for the loss of three wickets.
After removal of Morgan, Joe Root and Ben Stokes added together 70 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Root was caught at the fine leg by Hardik Pandya off Mohammad Shami when England’s score was 277 for the loss of four wickets.
Root hit a fine 44. His 54-ball innings saw two fours.
After dismissal of Root, Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler put on together 33 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Buttler (20) was caught and bowled by Mohammad Shami when England’s total was 310 for the loss of five wickets.
Chris Woakes (7) was caught by Rohit Sharma off Mohammad Shami when England’s score was 319 for the loss of six wickets.
Ben Stokes was caught at the fine leg by substitute Jadeja off Jasprit Bumrah when the hosts score was 336 for the loss of seven wickets.
Stokes hammered a windy 79. His 54-ball innings was belted with three sixes and six fours. It was Stokes 19th ODI half-century.
Mohammad Shami bowled really well. He finished his superb spell as 10-1-69-5.
Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket each conceding 44 and 72 runs respectively.
