Favourites England initiated a cautious start scoring 39 for the loss of one wicket in first 10 overs against New Zealand in their final match of the ICC World Cup Cricket 2019 at the Lord’s in London on Sunday, till filing this report. Earlier, the Kiwis made 241 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs.
New Zealand had a modest start as opener Martin Guptill (19) was trapped leg before wicket by Chris Woakes when New Zealand’s score was 29.
Opener Henry Nicholls and one-down Kane Williamson mended the damage contributing together 74 runs for the second wicket stand before Williamson was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Liam Plunkett when New Zealand’s total was 103 for the loss of two wickets.
Kane made 30 from 53 balls featuring two fours.
Nicholls was bowled out by Plunkett when the team’s total was 118 for the loss of three wickets.
Hicholls hit a sparkle 55. His 77-ball innings saw four fours. It was his ninth ODI half-century.
Second-down Ross Taylor (15) was trapped leg before wicket by Mark Wood when New Zealand’s score was 141 for the loss of four wickets. After Taylor’s dismissal, Tom Latham and James Neesham added together 32 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Neesham (19) was caught at the mid-on by Joe Root off Plunkett when New Zealand’s total was 173 for the loss of five wickets.
Then Latham and Colin de Grandhomme put on together 46 runs in the sixth wicket stand before Grandhomme ( 16) was caught at the mid-off by substitute James Vince off Chris Woakes when New Zealand’s score was 219 for the loss of six wickets.
Tom Latham was caught by substitute James Vince off Woakes when the team’s score was 232 for the loss of seven wickets.
Latham notched up a grand 47. His 56-ball innings saw two fours and a sixer.
Matt Henry (4) was bowled out by Jofra Archer when New Zealand’s score was 240 for the loss of eight wickets.
Woakes and Plunkett grabbed three wickets each instead of 37 and 42 runs respectively.
Jofra Archer and Mark Wood got one wicket each conceding 42 and 49 runs respectively.
