BSS, Chittagong :
Massive tons by Jack Burnham and Dan Lawrence as England Under-19 team inflicted a huge 299 runs defeat on Fiji under-19 team during their second match of ICC U-19 World Cup held on Wednesday at the MA Aziz Stadium.
Batting first after winning the toss, England amassed a massive total of 371 for 3 from their allotted 50
overs.
Opener Lawrence (174 off 150) and first down Burnham (148 off 137) combined for a 303-run second-wicket partnership in 265 balls for England after Cakacaka Tikoisuva removed Max Holden (3) early. Callum Taylor made a quick fire 21 and the last six overs yielded 89 runs as the English side raced to 371.
Fiji found the chase very stiff losing wickets in regular intervals and finally dismissed at a paltry total of
72 in 28 overs with only two batsmen reaching double figures on a miserable day.
Fiji were never in a position to chase from the start losing five wickets within the first six overs, with Sam Curran and Saqib Mahmood were caused the major damage for Fiji picking up three wickets apiece but Mahmood’s figures read 5-4-2-3.
Peni Vuniwaqa offered a brief resistance with a 74-ball 36, but it merely reduced the defeat margin. He was the last Fiji batsman out in the 28th over of the match.
Dan Lawrence of England was named the player of the match for his brilliant hundred in the match.
