England Women beat Bangladesh Women by 36 runs in their Group B match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 at Bangalore in India on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, England Women piled up a fighting total of 153 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the allotted 20 overs and then restricted Bangladesh Women to 117 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh Women faced a debacle losing their early four wickets for 46 runs.
Then Nigar Sultana and Salma Khatun fought back contributing together 64 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Nigar Sultana was stumped out by wicketkeeper SJ Taylor off A Shrubsole when Bangladesh’s total was 110 for the loss of five wickets.
Nigar Sultana hit a polished 35. Her 28-ball innings was belted with four fours and a sixer.
Salma Khatun remained unbeaten with 32. Her 30-ball notable knock was decorated with four fours.
Rumana Ahmed and Fargana Haque added 19 runs each to Bangladesh Women’s total.
Shrubsole begged a pair of wickets instead of 27 runs while JL Gunn, KH Brunt and D Hazell took one wicket each for 15, 17 and 20 runs respectively.
Earlier, England Women made a modest start with the two openers CM Edwards and TT Beaumant adding together 34 runs before Beaumont was cleanly bowled out by Jahanara Alam.
After dismissal of Beaumont, Edwards and SJ Taylor put on together 36 runs in the second wicket stand before Taylor (9) was stumped out by wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana off Fahima Khatun when England’s total was 70 for the loss of two wickets.
Later, Edwards and NR Sciver added together 47 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Sciver was caught at the long-on by Nahida Akter off Salma Khatun when England’s score was 118 for the loss of four wickets.
Opener Edwards hit a superb 60. She hit seven fours in her 51-ball innings before she was stumped out by wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana off Rumana Ahmed when England’s total was 127 for the loss of five wickets. Edwards was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Sciver hit a notable 27 from 22 balls featuring two fours.
Beaumont, KH Brunt, DN Wyatt added 18, 17 and 15 runs respectively to the England Women’s total.
Jahanara Alam was the peak of Bangladeshi bowlers. She grabbed three wickets at the cost of 32 runs.
Khadija Tul Kubra, Rumana Ahmed, Salma Khatun and Fahima Khatun took one wicket each for 15, 23, 28 and 33 runs respectively.
