Motivated England eve cricket team face their Australian counterpart in the grand final of women’s ICC World T20 schedule to be held today (Sunday) at the Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur in the city.
The match kicks off at 2.30 pm.
Earlier, Australia confirmed their final berth eliminating West Indies by eight runs in the first semifinal while England defeated South Africa by nine wickets in the second semifinal.
England Captain Charlotte Edwards says winning the Women’s World Twenty20 final would restore some pride in English cricket.
While their male counterparts were being whitewashed in the Ashes, her side beat Australia in the women’s version and face them again on Sunday.
“We have lots of confidence going into the final because we have played well against Australia in the past,” 34-year-old Edwards told BBC Sport.
“Hopefully we can bring the trophy home and restore a bit of pride.”
Following their Ashes humiliation, England’s men failed to reach the semi-finals in the World T20 in Bangladesh, suffering an embarrassing defeat by the Netherlands in their final game.
Edwards’ side, meanwhile, regained the Ashes in a multi-format series last summer and then successfully defended the trophy down under.
A nine-wicket win over South Africa in Friday’s T20 semi-final set up a repeat of the 2012 final, which the Southern Stars won.
“We know each other inside out,” said opening batter Edwards, who led England to the World T20 title on home soil in 2009. “It’s going to be a great final.
“In the Ashes T20 games, we have won four and they have won two, so we just hope we can put in another huge performance on Sunday.
“We have to be at our absolute best, as do they. It’s about who will deal with the occasion the best and hopefully that will be us.”
Australian captain Meg Lanning is hoping her side can build on their victories over England in the last two Twenty20 matches during the recent Ashes series.
“I think we got a bit out of that,” she said. “We certainly took some momentum and I think we had great team performances in those couple of games.
“But we are in very different conditions here now and we have got slightly different teams as well.”
