Energy coop needed for uplift of SAARC region

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid yesterday said that mutual energy cooperation is necessary for equal development of the countries under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).
The effort to create ‘energy circle’ comprising with the countries under the SAARC would be continued, said the state minister.
The state minister said this as the chief guest while he was inaugurating the first meeting of the energy regulators under the SAARC countries at a city hotel here.
The State Minister also gave emphasis on the development of the renewable and alternative energy resources along hydro-electricity and reservation of energy for creating and expanding of the regional power market.
Presided over by Energy and Mineral Resources Secretary Abu Bakar Siddique, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Chairman AR Khan.
