Mentioning that highest priority will be given to stopping the border killings, Director General of Border Security Force (BSF) of India Rakesh Asthana on Saturday said they are committed to bringing the border killings to zero.
He made the commitment on the third day of the DG-level border conference between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF being held at the BGB Headquarters in Dhaka.
The conference decided to stop border killings, smuggling of drugs, illegal firearms and human trafficking.
India agreed to speedily return back eight Bangladeshi nationals detained by them.
The two countries agreed to put importance to human rights while dealing any border issue. At the meeting, BSF assured BGB of stopping border killings.Besides, the border forces of the two countries agreed to carry out joint patrolling along the border.
The four-day border talks began on September 17.
A 13-member Bangladesh delegation, led by BGB Director General M Md Shafeenul Islam, is taking part in the conference while a six-member team of India is being led by the BSF chief.
