Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar laid emphasis on encouraging the new generation in postage stamp collection to know nation’s history, heritage and culture as well as eminent personalities.
“Postage stamp could provide such knowledge which would not be available in Google,” he said this on Monday while speaking at a ceremony of National Postage Stamp Day-2019 at the conference room of Posts and Telecommunications Division (PTD).
The minister directed the authorities concerned to take initiatives to release postage stamps on people who contributed specially to war of liberation, art-literature, culture and political arenas.
He said Mujibnagar Government in 1971 had released eight postage stamps which not only announced the existence of Bangladesh globally but also raised awareness of country’s independence through diplomatic process.
Mujibnagar Government released those postage stamps, designed by Indian national Biman Mollik, from the Bangladesh Mission in Kolkata and London on July 29, 1971.
Mustafa Jabbar stressed that the eight postage stamps should be republished, as they were part of independence and the young generation should know the history.
The minister also released a commemorative postage stamp of Taka 10, a first day cover of Taka 10 and a data card of Taka 5 using special cancellation on the occasion of National Postage Stamp Day.
PTD Secretary Ashoke Kumar Biswas, BTRC Chairman Md Jahurul Haque, Bangladesh Post Office Director General S S Bhadra, Teletalk Managing Director Shahab Uddin, BSCCL Managing Director Mashiur Rahman and officials concerned were present.
