Employment generation programme progressing in Gaibandha, Jamalpur

A 40-day special employment generation programme of the government for the hardcore and the seasonal unemployed people has been progressing fast in the district for last couple of weeks.
The aim of the programme is to assist the poor particularly the day and farm laborers of the district in overcoming their poverty and job crisis like situation during the lean period.
District Relief and Rehabilitation office sources said a total of Taka 20,75,37,774 crore have been sanctioned for the 23,276 workers to implement different development projects in rural areas of all the seven upazilas in the district.
Upazila wise breakup of the workers are: 1,954 in Fulchhari upazila, 4,474 in Sundarganj upazila, 2,877 in Shaghata upazila, 4,762 in Gobindaganj upazila, 2,984 in Sadullapur upazila, 3,994 in Sadar upazila and 2,231 in Palashbari upazila of the district.
The project works include construction and reconstruction of kutcha roads, bridges, culverts, earth filling and excavation and re excavation of derelict ponds and canals and removing water hyacinth from different water bodies, sources said.
Each of the workers would get Taka 200 per working day as wage from the programme, said acting district relief and rehabilitation officer and assistant commissioner Nazmul Hossain.
Of Taka 200, some 25 Taka would be cut as saving which would be returned back to the workers after ending the programme so that they could utilize the savings money in any development works, he also said.
Talking to the BSS deputy commissioner M. Ehsan-e-Elahi said necessary instructions were given to the UNOs, PIOs and project chairmen to perform the project works without any irregularities.

The government has allotted Taka 21 crore 37 lakh 42 thousand to implement the programme.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said Taka 19 crore 23 lakh 68 thousand were allotted as wages for the labourers and Taka 2 crore 13 lakh 74 thousand as non-wages cost.
The government under the project has sanctioned the money for 23,893 workers to implement different infrastructural development schemes in the district.
Each of the workers would get Taka 200 per day as wage from the programme, the sources said.
The project includes construction and reconstruction of earthen roads, bridges, culverts, educational and religious institutions.
