Employees careless attitude is causing immense sufferings to the patients at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital (BSMMU) in the city, it is alleged.
Besides, the hospital’s outdoor information centres have no responsible officials to give proper information to the patients and their attendants.
“We are waiting since 12:00pm for X-ray which is due to start from 2:00pm, but now it is 2:45pm. The X-ray room is still closed. We are now waiting in hot weather with sick health conditions. The officials careless behaviour put us to such a condition,” Ms. Rozy, a patients came from Dinajpur, told The New Nation on Thursday. The other patients and their attendants alleged that the employees of other sections also behave carelessly with the patients and their attendants.
Abu Bakar, a patient came from Shariatpur, said, he is suffering for the last four days due to the careless attitude of the employees.
“I am under treatment of a doctor in the BSMMU. The doctor gave me five tests like blood, urine, X-ray, ECG and MRI,” he said.
While taking the money receipt from an employee of a counter on Sunday he asked him twice or more than that, “If all the necessary tests given by the physician would be completed in this money receipt?”
The employee replied, “Yes, now you have to endorse this amount of money through the Pubali Bank, operates inside the university.”
Then I gave blood samples and urine and collected test reports after two days. But when I went to the doctor in Wednesday, he asked me for reports of ECG and X-ray. As he did not know about these two tests, the doctor marked again about these two tests.
When this correspondent on Thursday asked the said employee of the counter why he misguided the patient about the tests he replied he is not supposed to give money receipt for ECG, X-Ray and MRI.
“It’s a matter of different section,” the employee said ignoring his responsibility. When asked why he had said that the task of every tests were complete? Why not you said that some tests are there for different sections?. Then he started shouting at us.
The other patients alleged that the employees were generally found busy with talking among themselves. They give no attention to the patients or their attendants.
The patients also alleged that no officials generally found regularly in the information desks of the two out door buildings.
Some time cleaners and other lower class employees were found there. They mostly misguide the patients which increase their sufferings only.
As an example, on Thursday an attendant asked an employee sitting in the information desk in out door building number-2 that where is the ECG room? That person said, “go to Block -‘B’ but when he was searching there ECG room the others said that the room is in the 2nd floor in the outdoor building number-2.
Most of the patients in the out door said that they are being victims due to the lack of information about where they need to go for certain services.
There are some allegations that brokers and fraud people take the chance to cheat with the patients and their attendants.
On the spot visit it was found that Ansar and other lower class employees are involved in irregularities in the X-ray room. The Ansar’s constables were found busy to contact with some patients to give them chance first for X-ray, though many patients waiting for long in row.
“It is not easy to stay in row for hours in this hot summer. But Ansar and cleaners have found give advantage to some patients who came late in exchange for money.
When contacted, a high official of the university preferring anonymity said, “irregularities have gripped the BSMMU.”
When tried to contact the Vice-Chancellor of BSMMU, Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan, he did not receive the phone call.
