Emirates was rated as the Airline of the Year and US Bangla Airlines as Domestic Airline of the Year by the frequent flyers of Bangladesh for 2015.
Rashed Khan Menon, civil aviation minister, presented the seventh Monitor Airline of the Year 2015 awards to the winners at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Thursday. The Bangladesh Monitor, a leading travel publication, has been conducting the frequent flyers’ opinion poll to recognise the best airlines in different service categories since 2007.
The idea of conducting the poll is to assess popularity of the airlines operating in Bangladesh, judge their service standards and create an atmosphere of healthy competitions.
Some 14,126 frequent flyers of Bangladesh cast their votes either online or on the voting forms.
Emirates also won four more awards: Best Business Class, Best Inflight Entertainment and Best Long-Haul Airline and Favourite Frequent Flyer Programme (Skywards). Etihad Airways won the Best Economy Class award while Best Inflight Meal in Business Class award went to Turkish Airlines, according to the poll.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines achieved the Best Inflight Meal in Economy Class award while Best Short Haul Airline award went to Bangkok Airways and Best Budget Airline award to Tiger Airways.
DHL Express walked away with Air Express Company of the Year award while Novoair and Qatar Airways received jury’s appreciation awards. Cathay Pacific was voted the Cargo Airline of the Year.
Kuala Lumpur was awarded as the most popular tourist destination among Bangladeshis.
Abdul Matlub Ahmad, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, former caretaker government adviser; and Kazi Wahidul Alam, editor of the Bangladesh Monitor, spoke on the occasion.
