Relatives attacked Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s physicians, nurses and Ansar members after a patient’s death in the hospital on Sunday.
The emergency and casualty units were shutdown temporarily as a mark of protest against assault.
The uneasy situation ended at 5:00pm after the physicians and staff withdrew their strike.
Hospital Director AKM Nasiruddin announced the decision in a briefing with the doctors and staff at 5:00pm.
Witnesses said, at least 10 people, including four physicians, two nurses and four Ansars were hurt in the incident.
The patient, Nawshed Ahmed, 52, died in the Coronary care Unit of the hospital around 1:00pm.
He was admitted thereto on Sunday night with cardiac problems.
At about 1:30pm, Nowshed’s relatives from his locality at Lalbagh came to the hospital and attacked physicians and vandalised furniture.
In protest, physicians closed down all entrances of the hospital around 2:00pm and after one hour they opened all the units.
Before the withdrawal of the strike, the entrance of the emergency Unit was shut and patients were seen waiting outside the hospital.
The patients and their attendants suffered a lot. The patients with serious health conditions became anxious as they found all gates closed.
