Officials at a discussion have lauded efficiency of fire service and civil defense personnel for their emergency response and management systems in minimising loss of human lives and properties during disasters.
They expressed the view at the discussion arranged on the occasion of inaugurating the Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Week-2019 at Fire Service and Rangpur Civil Defense Station (FSCDS) premises in Rangpur.
Divisional Commissioner KM Tariqul Islam inaugurated observance of the week by releasing balloons and pigeons before leading a rally on the city streets as the chief guest.
Officials of the divisional and district administrations, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), Rangpur FSCDS and voluntary originations, rovers, scouts and civil society members participated in the rally.
The fire service and civil defense personnel demonstrated an impressive march past and a mock drill of extinguishing fire, rescue operation on the occasion.
Presided over by Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Acting Divisional Deputy Director for Rangpur FSCDS Ohidul Islam delivered welcome speech in the discussion.
Deputy Inspector General of Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya, RpMP Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud and Haragachh municipal Mayor Hakibur Rahman Master addressed as special guests.
Ohidul Islam discussed various types of natural disasters, including fire incidents, and forwarded suggestions to reduce disaster risks.
“The present government has taken various steps to reduce risks of disasters like fire incidents through disseminating information, warnings and early preparedness, trainings and emergency response management systems,” he said.
The speakers lauded the government for enhancing capacity and skills of fire service and civil defense personnel who are playing vital role in mitigating various disasters like fire incidents and other natural disasters.
They stressed the need for developing innovation of newer technologies and equipments and educating people on early preparedness for ensuring emergency response and managements during disasters to reduce losses of human lives.
The chief guest said the present government has put maximum importance on procuring modern equipments and training for fire service and civil defense personnel to increase their abilities.
