BSS, Dhaka :
Information Minister Hasanul Huq Inu said militancy, terrorism and corruption would have to be eliminated to ensure green and sustainable development in the country.
“Bangladesh will have to be taken forward on its own course. There is no room for militancy here,” he said this on Friday while speaking as special guest at ‘Grand Reunion 2016’ of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Alumni at BUET playground in the city.
Presided over by BUET Alumni President Prof. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, the function was addressed by former BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iqbal Mahmud as chief guest. BUET Alumni Vice-President Muniruddin Ahmed, Secretary General Dr. Sadiqul Islam Bhuiyan and BUET Student Welfare Director Prof. M Delwar also spoke on the occasion.
The information minister urged the engineers to play a pioneering role to save the country from natural and man-made disasters.
After discharging professional duties, the engineers would have to work as ‘social engineers,’ he said and added that now is the time to take the country forward.
The minister said it should be monitored that Bangladesh does not derail from its non-communal and exploitation-free track.
He said there is no room for IS, Taliban and other militants in the country.
The influence of militancy would have to be eliminated from the state and the politics, he added.
After the main discussion, the chief guest inaugurated the day-long programme by releasing balloons.
