Project Director of Mega Elevated Expressway Project of Chattogram Development Authority Mahfuzur Rahman said it will take two to two and a half hours to reach the airport and Patenga beach from Lalkhan Bazar in the city.
If the elevated expressway is built, it will take a maximum of 15-16 minutes to cross this 16 km long road.The construction of the elevated expressway project is going in full swing and after completion of the expressway, dynamism in development of port city will go up with maximum extents.
The duration of the mega project has been extended till June 2021 but it will take till 2023 to complete the work. 4 35 meter long girders have been installed in Patenga section of the elevated expressway. Vehicles will pass through this girder placed between the two pillars.
From now on, in addition to the construction of pillars, the work of installing girders with the help of sophisticated equipment will continue every night at the places where the work has been completed. This was apprised by the PD of the project at a discussions in Chattogram circuit house recently.
Mentionable that in July 2016, ECNEC approved the construction of an elevated expressway from Lalkhan Bazar to the airport at a cost of around Tk 3,500 crore. About a year and a half later, on February 24, 2019, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the construction work.
However, after the commencement of the work, the Chattogram Port and Civil Aviation Authority objected to the design and the traffic department of the police did not get permission to start the work. Construction was halted in March after the corona virus infect.
Construction of the Chattogram Development Authority’s (CDA) mega project Elevated Expressway resumed after the outbreak of corona became weaker . About 40 percent of the work has been completed so far. The installation of girders has started from the night of last September 24.
The CDA project is working to divide the project area into four parts. The total length of the section from Lalkhan Bazar to Barik Building, Barik Building to Saltgola and from Saltgola to Cement Crossing is 11 km. Work is underway on the 5 and a half kilometer stretch from Cement Crossing to Patenga. The cost of the project is estimated at Tk 3,250.63 crore.
