A herd of wild elephants attacked Kutupalong Rohingya camp trampling two members of a family to death and injuring three others in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Monday.
“The elephants attacked five members of Shamsul family, leaving two dead on the spot and three others injured,” Abul Khayer, Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station told journalists.
The deceased were identified as Shamsul Alam, 55, and his two-year-old son Sayedul Alam. The injured were taken to a local hospital.
The elephants also damaged several tents before disappearing in a nearby forest, Rohingya refugees told reporters.
