PM's directive: Electricity to ex-enclaves in 3 months

Staff Reporter :Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to give electricity connections to the new citizens-people of former enclaves, within three months. Before setting up of electricity lines, she ordered to arrange solar power for them. The Prime Minister gave the order to the Planning Ministry in a meeting at the ministry on Tuesday, Planning Minister AHM Mostafa Kamal told the journalists after the meeting.Sheikh Hasina also ordered to take development programmes, including infrastructure development in all the 111 enclaves as they can work with main steam people of the country, the msinister added.The government will bring all the former enclaves under electricity coverage by December this year. Local office of Rural Electrification Board (REB) has started survey in this regard in all the enclaves, said Engineer SM Muzammel Hossain, General Manager of Kurigram REB. Primarily, they made a list of 1,630 families in the enclaves of Kurigram through field visit, he said.Around 1.5 MW electricity may be required to give coverage of all the 12 enclaves of Kurigram region, Muzammel said.It is to be noted that 111 enclaves were added with Bangladesh territory after 68 years at 12:01am on August 1. 68 candles, one for each year, were lit up at the same time across all the new territories.
