A total of 866 villages in Khulna region would be brought under electricity coverage within the Mujib Year.
“A total of 3,03,268 subscribers in the Khulna region have been brought under electricity coverage in the past 19 years… Process is underway to bring more families under electricity coverage,” said an official of Rural Electrification Association (Pally Biddutyan Samity) on Saturday.
A total of 845 villages in Khulna have been brought under electricity coverage, he said.
President of Khulna District Electrification Samity Sayed Ali Afzal said Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) has already brought 80 per cent villages under power coverage in Khulna. Activities are going on for bringing the rest of 20 per cent villages under electricity coverage, he added.
The BREB has given instruction to the respective authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity as part of celebration of the Mujib Year.
Contacted, Deputy Director of BREB (Administration) S M Kamal Hossain said that the government has undertaken various projects in different terms aimed at implementing the initiatives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to supply electricity to each house by 2021.
“The government has fixed its target to increase electricity generation capacity to 24,000 MW by 2021,” he added.
