The campaign of two municipalities in Lalmonirhat district is going on in full swing.
One is Lalmonirhat Pourasava and another is Patgram pourasava.
The pourasavas are now in festive look. In Lalmonirhat pourasava, 6 candidates are contesting for Mayoral post.
The mayor candidates are: Riazul Islam Rintu(AL), Abdul Halim (BNP), Abdur Rashid (JP-Manju),Aminul Islam(IAB), Wahedul Islam Sena (Independent)and Humayan Aktar Shimul(Independent).58 Persons are contesting in councilor post and15 for the post of reserved for women councilor. Riazul Islam Rintu,seating Mayor of Lalmonirhat Pourasava is one of the 6 candidates contesting with the symbol of boat. He is contesting for two times. Abdul Halim is contesting with the symbol of paddy corn-stalk for the mayorship. He is a new face in contesting such election.
A total of 42,082 voters of Lalmonirhat pourasava will choose 1 Mayor,9 ward councilors and 3women councilors.
A face to face programme was held with Lalmonirhat mayor candidates with general people at Lalmonirhat Railway Shaheed Minar organised by Sujon,an NGO on19 December,2015.
In Lalmonirhat and Patgram,the candidates and the workers are also moving from door to door with a view to gaining the supports.
Election is now the only matter of discussion in the hotels, tea stalls,offices and residencs. Measurable steps have been taken for free, fair election by administrative authority.
