Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon yesterday said that the next general election will be held under the incumbent government in line with the country’s constitution.
“The next election won’t be stopped for anyone as it would move on its own course,” he said.
The minister said this as the chief guest at a reception accorded to him by different units of Dhaka-8 constituency under Dhaka City South Awami League at the National Sports Council here.
His comments came when a senior BNP leader said that his party won’t participate in any election under the incumbent government.
Menon, also the president of Workers Party, said BNP is taking preparation to make the next general election “controversial”.
Referring to BNP’s role in formation of the Election Commission, Menon said the BNP gave their opinion for constitution the EC.
“But now they are spreading propaganda that the fair election is not possible under this commission,” he said, adding there is no alternative to holding the election to keep continue the government and the constitution.
