BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said on Tuesday that participation in the Parliament election under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would be a suicidal case.
“We cannot commit suicide by jumping under a running truck. So we cannot go to election under Sheikh Hasina to avoid death,” said, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.
He said it while addressing a discussion meeting at the National Press Club, organized by ‘Voice of Democracy,’ a voluntary organization.
Gayeshwar Roy complained of vote rigging in the Narayanganj City Corporation polls held on December 22.
“The voting of NCC polls was fair, but the result was unfair. Our party won most of the councillor posts than the Awami League, but the party nominated Mayor candidate got less votes. It is totally incredible,” he said.
The BNP leader said that his party nominated MP candidates won in all the five Parliamentary seats of Narayanganj in 2001. In view of this, the defeat by a big margin could not be practical.
Zillur Rahman Rintu, Advisor of the organisation, presided over the programme.
BNP Joint-Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and central leader Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah, among others, delivered speech.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan marked the District Council polls as illegal.
He said it after placing wreath at late President Ziaur Rahman’s grave to mark the founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).
Nazrul Islam Khan alleged that Union Parishad, Municipalities, Upazilas and City Corporations’ polls were held in unfairmeans.
JASAS President MA Malek and General Secretary Monir Hossain, among others, were present.
