Elections in 25 municipalities will be held on December 28 under the first phase.
The Election Comm-ission announced the schedule on Sunday, says its senior secretary Md Alamgir Hossain.
“In the first phase, elections will be held in 25 municipalities on December 28. Whole voting process will be executed by Electronic Voting Machines system (EVMs),” he said.
Earlier, on Thursday the EC said that documents for holding elections to 25 municipalities were placed before it. It was then hinted that first phase elections schedule would be announced either on November 17 or 25.
According to the EC, there are 329 municipalities in the country. Of them, 259 municipalities are eligible for elections. Eleven municipalities tenure will be expired in January 2021. The 185 municipalities tenure will be expired in February. Of them four municipalities date will be expired on February 1 and 2, 46 municipalities on February 10, 133 municipalities on February 28. In March the tenure of 28 municipalities will be ended. 30 municipalities tenure will end land on April to November.
EC has already declared schedule for five municipalities. This year all kinds of posts as mayor, counselors and nominated counselors election will be held without party symbol.
