Staff Reporter :
We must unite to break the electoral gridlock against free election. Changing of the election system was a blueprint for paving the way to autocracy. The Constitution is for parliamentary democracy but the new system of election without dissolving the parliament is not to be found under parliamentary system anywhere, Barrister Mainul Hosein said Thursday in a talk show of Channel-i, Tritiyo Matra anchored by Zillur Rahman.
He was most categorical in claiming that the hurdle created by changing the Constitution is such that there is no easy solution for ensuring free election. It is also frustrating that we have no mature political leadership for negotiating compromises. The constitutional provision will have to be replaced and there will also be need for approaching the Supreme Court.
No democratic government suffers constantly from fear of conspiracy knowing that they have the strength of the people behind. But the present government suspects conspiracy everywhere, Mainul said.
He said, the government’s most trusted friends, China and India, are not supporting us on the grave crisis of Rohingya refugees, instead they are on the side of Myanmar. The truth is the Rohingyas are not here as refugees but they have been thrown out as being Bangladeshis and our government failed to take a bold position against Myanmar.
Senior advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun was the other participant in the talk show.
