21 candidates vie for post of UZ chairman: Election fever grips Fenchugonj UZ

Owing to prolonged court case, after 15 years, election to 5 union Parishad is going to be held in industrial area Fenchugonj Upazila in Sylhet on March 29.
Voters for the first time will exercise their right of franchise to ‘boat’ and ‘sheaf of paddy’ in this. So it is natural that festive mood and fear co-exist centering the up-coming election on March 29th next. On the election day mobile court, RAB, Police and BGB will be deployed by the administration.
Election Commission declared the polling schedule on 20th February last. Election fever grips 114 villages of 5 unions under the upazila. On 13th March symbols were distributed. 21 candidates will vie for the post of chairman and 228 candidates will vie for members’ posts, to be elected by 71,000 voters. People hope this condition prevail till polling day. Earlier Election Commission tried to make this polling as a real and neutral poll. People think Election Commission will play their proper role.

In No.-2 Maijgao U.P former Chairman Sufianul Karim Chowdhury (Sheaf of paddy), Emran Ahmed Chowdhury (Pineapple, in dependent), Jubed Ahmed Chowdhury (Boat). In No.-3 Gilachora U.P Hazi Lais Chowdhury (Boat) former chairman Aftab Ali (Sheaf of paddy), Acting chairman Ashraf Babul (Pineapple, independent). In North Kushiara U.P Ludu Miah (Boat), Former Chairman Fazlur Rahman (Pineapple, independent), Ahmed Jilu (Sheaf of paddy), Monir Ali Nanu (independent), Basrat Ali and Aftab Ali both are independent. In No.-5 North Fenchugonj U.P Jasim Uddin (Boat), Emran Uddin (Sheaf of paddy), Satya Kumar Biswas (independent), A. Wadud (independent), Atiqur Rahman Mithu (independent). Fenchugonj Upazila Election Officer Bimolendu Kishor Paul said as the election will be held after 15 years interval, 45 center are vulnerable and 14 are more vulnerable. So Election Commission will take necessary steps to make the election free and fair.
