Election propagation getting momentum as scheduled date of casting vote on July 30 getting closer.
Candidates now are busy in different corner of the city for propagation.
BNP led 20 -parties candidate Mojibor Rahaman said that arresting BNP and Jamaat men during election propagation may hamper free fair election and it will also damage level playing field for election.
He made this comment during election propagation at Chandmari, Stadium area on Saturday noon.
‘City Jammat secretary Zahir Uddin Md. Babor was arrested during election propagation at Battala area on Friday day night and more two Jamaat and BNP activists were also arrested two days ago.
Police are searching our leaders and party member and activists and so they could not participate election propagation’- he added
He demanded deploying Army in BCC election to conduct free fair impartial election.
Iqbal Hossain Tapos, the mayor candidate nominated by JaPa(Ershad) said ruling party cadres giving threats against JaPa activists.
 AL nominated mayor candidate Serniabat Sadik Abdullah during propagation at Kashipur area of the city said deploying arms forces is under jurisdiction of election commission , we have no comment in favor or against that.’
RCC councilor candidates for providing improved civic services
BSS, Rajshahi: Seventeen councilor candidates, including seven for women reserved seats, in the Ward No-5 and 23 of the upcoming election of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) scheduled to be held on July 30, promised to provide improved civic services if they were elected.
Besides, they will extend support towards transforming the city corporation administration into a corruption-free and pro-people entity.
The contestants made this commitment while taking part in two separate “Face-to-Face with People” programmes in the city on Saturday afternoon.
Sushasoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) organised the programme on the premises of Mohisbathan Girls High School and Tikapara Mokbul Halder crossing to make arrangement for the voters to ask their questions to the candidates.
The voters also declared that they will boycott corrupts, terrorists, war criminals, violators against women, drug-peddlers and loan defaulters in theelection. On their part, the councilor aspirants elaborated their electoral commitments and plans.
More than 350 people comprising voters in general, representatives from socio-cultural-professional bodies and human rights and election monitoring organisations took part in the programmes.

BNP Mayor candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury yesterday launched his election campaign at Khujar Khola and Boroikandi areas of South Surma in Sylhet City. While carrying on mass- contact , Mr. Arif was accompanied with Habigonj Municipal Mayor G.K. Gous , Sylhet District BNP General Secretary Ali Ahmed , Bangladesh Khelafat Moylish Sylhet City Vice-President Abdul Hannan Tapadar, Central Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) Vice-President Mahbubul Haque Chowdhury , former Vice- President of BNP (women) front Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, Nazmun Nahar Baby and other BNP, JCD and front leaders. Mr. Arif sought vote for his ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ to ensure the on-going development projects in Sylhet City during his mayoral tenure.
