An elderly woman was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land-related dispute at Dikpara village in Sadar upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Fatema Begum,80, wife of Sharafat Ali, a resident of the village.
Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Sharafat Ali and his neighbour Shahjahan Miah over the ownership of a piece of land.
As a sequel to the enmity, both groups locked into an altercation in the evening, leading to a clash.
At one stage, supporters of Shahjahan Miah beat up Fatema, leaving
her critically injured
Fatema was rushed to Sherpur Zila Hospital where on-duty doctors declared her dead. A case was filed in this connection.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Majharul Karim confirmed the incident.
