The body of an elderly woman was recovered from a paddy filed at Jagatpur Moddhopara village in Burichang upazila recently.
The deceased was identified as Noorjahan Begum, 70, wife of late Abul Hashem of the village. The body was damped at a paddy filed near her house after cutting her tendons, said Akul Chandra Biswas, officer-in-charge of Burichang Police Station
She might have been killed following a family dispute among her eight children over her land property, the OC further said quoting locals. Daughter of the deceased Parvin Begum claimed someone stole her mother’s valuables and cash from her house while Noorjahan was visiting her house for last 12 days.
One of her brothers, Oli, used to beat Noorjahan frequently on several occasions forcing her to transfer the ownership of her lands to him, Parvin claimed.
However, Oli went into hiding soon after the incident.
