Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh on Monday asked elderly people not to go to cattle markets this year to avoid getting infected with coronavirus.
Addressing a coordination meeting at Nagar Bhaban, the Mayor said World Health Organization’s data shows that people above 60 are most vulnerable to coronavirus for which they should avoid going to the cattle markets.
As Eid-ul-Azha will be held amid the coronavirus pandemic, those who will go to the cattle markets have to maintain social distancing as well as health guidelines, the mayor said, adding that people have to use masks and hand gloves.
DSCC will conduct mobile courts to maintain health guidelines, the mayor added.
This year, two city corporations of Dhaka decided to run 28 cattle markets — 18 in DSCC areas and 10 in Dhaka North City Corporation areas.
