Ekushey screen drops today

The month-long Amar Ekushey Boi Mela, which reminded us of our glorious sacrifice for Bengali language instilling a sense of patriotism throughout the month of February, comes to an end today (Tuesday).
The long queues of the book lovers were seen at every entry points of the Boi Mela on the Bangla Academy premises and the Suhrawardy Udyan yesterday.
The publishers as well as the visitors were in cheerful mood on Monday. Visiting the Boi Mela, it was witnessed that a large number of book lovers crowded the bookstalls and many of them bought a good number of books.
Tanvir Hasan, a 4th year student of Dhaka University, who bought 17 books as last moment collection, said, he always buys books from the Boi Mela for a year. He was accompanied by his friend Rana , another DU student.
‘I have come to the Boi Mela with my friends from Patuakhali at the ending moment of Mela, like the last year. I took a book titled ‘The Art of War’ of Sun Tzu translated by Sabidin Ibrahim for my younger brother. I bought majority of my favourable books today (Monday) and rest of others will buy tomorrow (Tuesday)’, said Zahid Hosain Jony, a student of Galachipa Government College.
Sabidin Ibrahim, translator of Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” told The New Nation, it is very satisfactory matter that the book lovers, especially young people, are buying more books.
“The Art of War” is now one of the best seller book of Oitezza publishing house’s and my another book titled “History of English Literature” is also drew attention of the readers”, he said.
The publishers also expressed their satisfaction at the sale position. They said, people are buying a huge number of books everyday for the last few days. They are expecting a huge turn out of readers at the fair today (Tuesday) and they will sell a huge number of books today than the other days, said publishers.
Rabin Ahmed, publisher of Sraban Publishing House, said on Monday that the readers were gathering in front of their stall and buying their favourite books. ‘We have sold a huge number of books than in the last year, as the present fair management is better. Readers come at the fair premises without any problem and they bought their preferred books’, he said.
Shakir Ahmed, salesman of Anna Prokash, said that they are always busy to feed the readers. A large number of readers always swarm in front of their stall. Their selling position is also good.
Meanwhile, One hundred and fifty five new books arrived at Amar Ekushey Boi Mela on Monday. Of the new books, 16 are storybooks, 25 novels, 7 essay, 47 poems, 2 Thesis, 19 Rhyme, 3 Child Literature, 8 Biography, 3 Liberation War, 2 Science, 3 Science fiction and 16 books on other subjects.
The books were, “Hizal Dangar Mukti Bari” of Mustafa Masud, “Rajnitier Bidhi Prosonga” of Ahmad Rafiq and “Sangbader Janmo Kahini” of S M Rana published by Kotha Prokash, “Labonnoboti” of Masuma Siddique published by Somoy Prokashoni, “Khudha Brittanta” of Syed Samsul Haque published by Anna Prokash and “Arthonitir Bijoy” of Manun Rashid published by Agami Prokashoni, among others.
A discussion titled ‘Bangladesher Prokashona: Granta Porikalpona and Sampadona’ was held at 4:00 pm in the main podium of academy. Emiratus Publisher Mahiuddin Ahmed presided over the function, while Tarik Sujat presented the keynote paper. Mafidul Haque, Badiuddin Nazir and Khan Mahbub were present as the discussants.
Latter, a fascinating cultural program was held in the main prodime.
At 4:00 pm a discussion titled “Bohuttobadi Samaj O Foklor” will be held on today (Tuesday) in the main podium of academy. Firoz Mahmud will preside over the function, while Shahida Khatun will present the keynote paper. Syed Jamil Ahmed and B B Rasel will participate the discussion.
