Farid Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Gayan O Srijonshil Prokashok Samity confirmed the matter to the media on Sunday after a meeting with Bangla Academy director general Habibullah Siraji.
He said,”We’have exchanged opinion over holding the book fair. A decision has been taken in the meeting to hold the fair
in a traditional way like previous years. After fixing the date, we’ll submit a proposal to Bangla Academy on how to arrange the book fair. Bangla Academy then will forwarded it to the government. The fair will begin at any date in February if the government permits.”
Earlier on Sunday, Bangla Academy proposed to hold book fair for 2021 virtually due to coronavirus pandemic.
Publishers and writers protested the decsion in the social media and made a call for holding the fair in a traditional manner.
The traditional book fair, organised every year by the Bangla Academy, began on February 1 every year.
