‘Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar project has over 1 cr beneficiaries’

LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said over one crore poor people were getting benefits from a successful implementation of ‘Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar (One Homestead, One Farm) project across the country.
The minister said the ‘Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar’ is a dream and priority project of the Prime Minister and a total of 40,427 villages from 40,527 wards, 4,503 unions, 485 upazilas and 64 districts have so far been brought under the scheme.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said this on Wednesday while responding to a question from treasury bench member Muhibur Rahman Manik of Sunamganj-5 in the Jatiya Sangsad.
Under the project, Village Development Association has been formed in every village with 60 poor people and in this way over one crore people of 22 lakh families are reaping the benefits from the project, Hossain said.
He informed the House that the main philosophy of the project is no micro-credit, but permanent alleviation of poverty through micro-savings.
The minister said the Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar project is providing Taka 1.50 lakh annually to each association as revolving fund.
Besides, 4.33 lakh beneficiaries and officials/employees have received
training under the project, Hossain said.
