Staff Reporter :At least eight staff of a city hospital were awarded two months jail term and fined Tk 10.5 lakh by a mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on charge of keeping a dead baby at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Monday to extract money in the form of fee for intensive care. Executive Magistrate Helal Uddin on Monday punished the hospital staff for cheating the victim’s family. The arrested staff are Delwar Hossain, 54, Sirazul Islam, 40, Hahdadur Mia, 24, Sakib Al Nahian, 27, Sanchita Biswas Ria, 36, and Nirala Khatun, 45, RAB official said. RAB-2 Operation Officer Yasir Arafat said, “A team of the elite force raided the Padma General Hospital at Panthapath area following complains that some of its staff was realising money from a family claiming their dead child as alive.”The deceased father Mujibur Rahman from Brahmanbaria district, admitted his eight-year old boy on Sunday evening and the baby died at the hospital ICU a few hours after his admission. But the hospital authorities were charging Tk 20,000 per day by showing him alive.
