Eight die with corona-like symptoms

At least eight persons died with symptoms similar to that of coronavirus in six districts in the last 24 hours.
Of them, two were from Dhaka and Chattogram while one from Satkhira, Khulna, Narail and Feni each.
However, the authorities concerned have so far confirmed six death linked to coronavirus in the country.
In Dhaka, two persons have died at the isolation ward of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A 65-year-old man died at 10:30 pm on Tuesday night, while a 32-year-old man at 5am on Wednesday.
DMCH Assistant Director (Finance) Dr Alauddin Al Azad confirmed the matter..
Hospital sources said both the men had been undergoing treatment for fever and cold.
Dr Alauddin Al Azad also informed, the bodies are kept at the morgue.
In Chattogram, a boy and a woman died with coronavirus symptoms.
A 14-year-old boy died in Chattogram General Hospital with symptoms of fever, coughing and breathing problems this morning.
He was kept inside the hospital’s isolation ward.
The boy, hailing from Cox’s Bazar, was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, said Chattogram Civil Surgeon Seikh Fazle Rabbi.
Samples were collected and sent to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) for coronavirus test, said civil surgeon.
The body was kept in the hospital and will be handed over to the family once the test result is received.
Meanwhile, six patients were undergoing treatment in isolation wards at different hospitals of Chattogram till this afternoon, Civil Surgeon Rabbi said, adding that a total of 928 people so far have been placed in home quarantine in the district.
Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) tested eight samples in the last 24 hours and found all of those samples negative for Covid-19, said Mamunur Rashid, Associate Professor of BITID.
The institute tested a total of 42 samples so far since March 25.
A woman who was taken to the isolation unit of Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) in Sitakunda upazila died on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Arfa Begum, 55, wife of Abdul Hossain of Amirabad area in the upazila.
BITID Director Abul Hasan said that Arfa was admitted to BITID with cold, fever and respiratory problem in the morning and she died around 8:30pm.
The samples of the woman were sent to the Institute of Epimiology, Disease Control and Research in the capital for test, he said, adding that the reason behind the death would be cleared after the medical report.
In Satkhira, a woman died from fever and cold-related diseases at Bandokati village in Kaliganj upazila early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Rashida Khatun, 25, wife of Sirajul Islam of Dakkhin Sripur village.
Sheikh Riazuddin, Bishnupur union parishad chairman, said Rashida had been suffering from cold-related diseases and fever from March 26. Later, she came to her father’s house the following day. She took treatment from a local practitioner and a homeopathic doctor, but she did not come around.
Later, she died around 5:30am on Tuesday.
The UP chairman said they informed it to Kaliganj Upazila Health Officer Tobibur Rahman.
The health official said he heard about the death.
He said they are suspecting that the woman died from cardiac arrest. In Khulna, a schoolboy suffering from liver cirrhosis died without treatment on Tuesday afternoon after he was turned away by four hospitals.
Rifat, son of Mohammad Kashem, was a resident of Khalishpur Housing Bihari camp no-1.
He was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital around 2:30pm after his condition deteriorated. “But the authorities there refused to admit him sayingthere was no doctor,”his grandfather Kalimuddin said.
He was given medicine and the family was asked to bring him there on Wednesday.
Later, Rifat was taken to Khalispur Clinic but was denied admission there, prompting the family members to take him to Surgical Hospital. There,doctors suggested to take him to Moylapota Hospital but he was denied admission as well.
He died in the evening without receiving treatment, said Kalimuddin.
Dr Sheikh Atiar Rahman, assistant director of KMCH said the hospital doctors are under pressure following coronavirus. But the situation was not so severe that general patients would not get proper treatment. He said he would look into the matter. Civil Surgeon Dr Sujat said treatment for general patient has not been stopped at any hospital and promised to look into the issue.
In Narail, a young man, who had been suffering from fever and cold, died at Sadar Hospital on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Shawkat Ali, 25, son of Omar Ali of Narail municipality area.
Dr Touhidul Islam, duty doctor of the hospital, said Shawkat had been suffering from fever and cold for the last 3-4 days.
On Tuesday night, family members brought him to the hospital around 8:30pm, he said, adding that he died 15 minutes later around 8:45pm.
Dr Mashiur Rahman, resident medical officer of the hospital, said they primarily suspected that Shawkat died of a cardiac arrest as he was also complaining of chest pain when arrived at the hospital.
In Feni, a youth (3o) died of fever and breathing problem. District Civil Surgeon Doctor Sajjad Hossain said he died in his resident in West Chhanua village of Feni Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The news of the death of the young man spread panic in the area.
Police, health department and local sources said that the young man had fever and breathing problem in the last 3 1/2 days.
On Monday, her relatives took her to Feni General Hospital, where doctors advised her to stay home with first aid.
The youth’s breathing problem increased from Tuesday night. He died on Wednesday afternoon. The young man worked at a grill workshop adjacent to Feni Central High School.
The youth’s neighbor and local ward Awami League general secretary Jafar Uddin said, “From a young age, the boy was suffering from shortness of breath. We have heard that he had been suffering from fever for the last few days. ‘
The government’s Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) confirmed three more cases of the coronavirus infection, taking the total number of positive tests to 54 on Wednesday.
