The holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslim Ummah, was celebrated with due rituals, sacrifice and solemnity. across Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district on Wednesday.
 During this three-day festival, Muslims were mandated to slaughter designated animals such as sheep, goat, cows, and camels – depending on the availability and cultural norms of the region.
This ‘sacrifice is carried out in commemoration of Prophet Ebrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son to show obedience to Allah. Meanwhile, many people from different places came to their village homes to celebrate the festival with their near endear ones.
 The stage was almost set for smooth holding of Eid prayers in the town of Gouripur and elsewhere. The main Eid congregation was held at Khelar Mathh Eidgah Maidan near the Gouripur Stadium around 9:01 am and the second largest congregation in the town was held at Islamabad Madrasha’s playing ground at 9.10 am being looked after by Gouripur Pourashava.
 Meanwhile, many people from different places came to their village homes to celebrate the festival with their near endear ones.
 Important public houses, thoroughfares and road sides of the town were decorated with national flags, gates and banners inscribed with ‘Eid Mubarak’.
 Leaders of different political and socio cultural organisations in their messages greeted the people. Besides, marking the Eid, Freedom Fighter Alhaj Nazim Uddin Ahmed MP, AL aspirants who would buy nomination papers for Mymensingh-3(Gouripur) upcoming-election this year like central leader and Ex VP of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Krishibid Dr. Shameul Alam Liton, former Upazila AL President Freedom Fighter Adv. Abul Kalam Azad; former Upazila Chairman Ali Ahmed Khan Pathhan Salvee; Assist General Secretary of Bangabandhu Foundation Naznin Alam; Central leader Murshedujjaman Selim; Upazila Vice Chairman Rabeya Islam Doly , District AL leader GM Babul (VP Babul), greeted party men as well as the Muslims across Gouripur upazila. Besides, on Tuesday morning about 3 hundred Muslims who are followers to the Sureshuri Mazar at Shariatpur, celebrated their Eid under the leadership of Pir Syed Shahnur Abtab Parvez Nuri at village Bahadurpur of this upazila.
BSS adds: from Rangpur: Holy Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Muslims, was celebrated on Wednesday with due religious fervour and solemnity and sacrificing animals in Rangpur division.
The authorities concerned ensured peaceful celebrations of Eid-ul-Azha at all 7,332 congregations held in the division by taking necessary measures and deploying adequate number of police, Ansar-VDP, RAB and Police Investigation Bureau (PBI) forces and volunteers.
Thousands of the Muslims of all ages offered special munajats seeking divine blessings and eternal peace for departed souls of their nearer and continued peace and prosperity of the country, its people and the Muslim Ummah.
The national flag was hoisted atop all government, semi-government and private buildings and mosques, Eidgahs, streets and major buildings were illuminated and decorated with colourful miniature flags and banners inscribed with Eid Mubarak.
Improved diets were served to inmates of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, orphanages and vagrant welfare centres in all eights districts under the division.
In Rangpur city, Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) in association with the district and police administrations arranged the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation at the Central Collectorate Eidgah at 8:30 am amid pleasant weather.
Former President, Special Envoy to the Prime Minister and Jatiya Party Chairman Alhaj Hussein Muhammad Ershad participated in the main Eid congregation.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, acting president of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, politicians, professionals and elite of the city participated in the main Eid congregation.
Police Super Mizanur Rahman with high police officials offered Eid prayers at 8 am on Police Lines School and College ground in the city.
State Minister for LGRD Mashiur Rahman Ranga offered Eid prayers at the biggest Eid congregation of the district held on Alambiditor Eidgah Maidan in Gangachara upazila.
The other major Eid congregations were held at Nasirabad Ekramia Jam-e-Mosque, Kamal Kachhna Baro Jam-e-Mosque, Munshipara Eidgah, Medical College Ground, Bahar Kachhna Eidgah, RCCI School and College ground and Carmichael College ground in the city.
Bigger Eid-ul-Azha congregations were held at Keramotia Jam-e-Mosque, Jummapara Korimiya Nurul Ulum Madrasa Ground, Mulatol Madrasa, Shalbon Mistripara Ground, Central Bus Terminal Jam-e Mosque, Satmatha Jam-e Mosque, Mahiganj College ground and many other places.
Outside the city, bigger Eid jamaats were held at Badarganj Central Eidgah, Pirgachha Karbala Eidgah, Pirgachha JN High School, Kawnia Central Eidgah, Mithapukur Central Eidgah, Taraganj Chowpathi Eidgah and Pirganj Central Eidgah.
Besides, many other Eid-ul-Azha jamaats, out of total 776 in Rangpur district, were held on the Eidgahs, mosques and grounds in the rural areas in all eight upazilas between 8:30am and 10.30am.

On the Eid Day, streams of people rushed to the nearest eidgahs, mosques and open places to offer their Eid prayers.
Thousands of devotees at the end of congregations offered special prayers seeking divine blessings and eternal peace of departed souls particularly their near and dear ones, continued peace, progress, and prosperity of the country as well as greater welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
The main Eid congregation of Rajshahi city was held at Hazrat Shah Mukhdum ® Central Eidgah at 8:00am.
Mayor-elect of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, former city mayors Musaddique Hossain Bulbul and Mijanur Rahman Minu, senior divisional and district level officials including Divisional Commissioner-in-Charge Aminul Islam and Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader and other local elites offered their prayers at the main Eid jamaat.
Some other big Eid jamaats in the city were held at Rajshahi University, RUET campus, Hatemkha, Stadium Ground, Shalbagan, Alif Lam Meem Bhata Eidgah, Police Line Parade Ground, Mohisbathan Eidgah Math and Upashahar Eidgah Moidan.
Around 150 other Eid-ul-Azha jamaats were held at traditional and temporary venues in Rajshahi metropolis.
