Most of the shopping markets and footpaths of Dupchanchia are seen crowded with mad rush of buyers as Eid shopping has started getting momentum in the area with a few days left for the Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims.
 During a visit to Dupchanchia upazila, this correspondent found shoppers of all ages from different areas rushing everyday to different markets to purchase their items of choice for the near and dear ones.
 Jobeda Shopping Complex, New Market, Puratonbazar, Amjad Shopping Complex and Karimhaji Plaza are now humming with buyers. Of those, the lower-income people were seen gathering for shopping at footpath Market for the Poor. ‘Eye-catching collections of different kinds of sarees like Jamdani, Muslin Jamdani, Tant, Silk, Tangail Katan Silk, appliqué, stitched and block printed ones are being displayed at the markets of the area attracting a good number of customers.
 However, overall prices of salwar kameez, sarees, children’s and gent’s wears were a bit high this year, “I’ve come here from Bogra to buy 5 pieces of sarees as Eid gifts for my relatives as this item is being sold here at a cheaper rate compared to the posh city malls,” said Hasan, a banker.
 Meanwhile, the fashion houses in Talora area are notable for its traditional grand shopping outlets of branded products representing popular brands. The market where a huge collection of some vogue fashion wares has been put on display.
S.A.Shofiee from Sylhet reports: The shopping spree has reached its peak in the Sylhet as the city dwellers were flocking to shopping malls on Sunday as the festival of Eid is barely a week away.
Markets and shopping malls have been hit by a heavy rush of customers who are on a buying spree ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the largest religious festivals of Muslims.
Huge crowd was seen at different shopping malls, roadside shops and footpath markets in the capital on Saturday as people from all walks of life were thronging there to make the best out of their shopping spree for celebrating the Eid festivity.
“Most of the shoppers flock to the shopping malls on the weekend ahead of Eid, but rain barred many people from going out for shopping this Friday. So, they are visiting the markets on Saturday,” said Sheak Mokhan Miha, Chirman of Sylhet Shop Owners Association.
Al Hamra Shopping City, Blue water Shopping City, Sylhet City Centre, Shukria Market, Hasan Market, Modubon, and Sylhet Plaza are now humming with buyers.
Of those, the lower-income people were seen gathering for shopping at the Hawkers’ Market which is known as ‘Market for the Poor.’
Eye-catching collections of different kinds of sarees like Jamdani, Muslin Jamdani, Tant, Silk, Tangail Katan Silk, appliqué, stitched and block printed ones are being displayed at the markets of Lama bazar area attracting a good number of customers.
Traffic around the shopping malls on this weekly holiday was terrible and the traffic system towards the shopping malls virtually collapsed from the afternoon.
Salesmen were busy to satisfy customers with their best products while some customers complained about high prices of different items. Roadside vendors were also seen making brisk business ahead of Eid.
Men and boys were seen busy in buying Panjabis, T-shirts and formal shirts from different brand shops including Plus Point, Texmart, Ecstasy, Cats Eye, Lubnan, Yellow, Arong, Anjans, Dorjibari, Westecs, Banglar Mela, Probortana, Sadakalo, Kay Kraft, Deshal, Deshi Dosh, Infinity, Rang, Nitto Upohar and Nagordola.
A salesman at AL Hamra Shopping City told that like previous year, Indian sari and salwar kamiz were dominating this year’s Eid market. “Customers also prefer saris and salwar kamiz named after different popular characters of Indian drama serials,” he said.
People were seen choosing shoes from different shoe outlets, including Bata, Apex, Jennys, Orion and Bay emporium.
Some people were busy in buying jewellery, optical, perfumes, electronics and home decorative items.
BSS from Khulna adds: With barely one week left for the Muslim religious festival Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid shopping in Khulna has maxed out amid huge supply of consumer goods and enthusiastic buying from the eid shoppers.
All the city markets are seen busy now everyday to sell their commodities to the shoppers.
With the rise in the number of buyers, traffic jam in the city’s busy market places, especially at Picture Palace, Dawkbangla, Borobazar, Clay Road and KDA New Market area, have witnessed biggest crowds in recent times.
The buyers, mostly from middle class, are found moving from shop to shop at City’s Nixon markets asking prices of goods.
Small shops are found more crowded than the big shopping malls. Buyers in larger numbers are crowding the shopping centres.
Most of the rich buyers are crowding KDA New Market and different big shopping centres while the low income group people are also seen on Saturday purchasing their desired items from the footpath shops in the city.
Ayub Hossain, owner of Kustia Bastrolay at Borobazar market said, “Our shop is packed with Eid shoppers. I am pleased as I am selling well in last few days.”
Varieties of Jamdani, Moslin, Silk, Boutique and Kotka saris and Indian Saris, Lehanga, Kironmala dress are being sold every day in increasing number, he said.
All the staffs in the shops were busy displaying their exclusive Eid collections to customers as most of the customers seeking for the latest trend and fashion.
