As the third week of Ramzan begins, shoppers have started to crowd at shopping malls to grab their desired items for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr in Sylhet .
Sales boomed on Sunday, at almost all shopping centres and markets in the Sylhet, namely at Hasan Market, Modubon Supar Market, Al Hamra Shoping City, Shukria Market and Bluwater Shoping city.
Visiting the malls, this correspondent found people thronging shops with friends and family to check and buy clothes and accessories of the latest trend this year.
Most shops have already extended their working ours till midnight to cater the huge flow of Eid shoppers. The flow of customers increase after iftar hours. ‘I shop after iftar hours as I stay busy during the daytime. I prefer shopping from Bashundhara city as I can get everything together in one place,’ Sabina Ahmed, a doctor at a reputed hospital, said.
Apart from local brands, varieties of Indian, Pakistani, Thai and Chinese products have also gained popularity in shopping malls at Maha, Kahab and Shee, and Arang. Supply of lifestyle items, including foreign brands, in the market has also gained momentum.
Popular clothes are being sold from prices ranging from Tk 3,000 to Tk 20,000. Clothes, accessories, shoes, perfume, makeup— every item has demand because of the upcoming festival. Home decor shops are also full of customers as people are keen to decorate houses in Eid festival.
The crowds at the markets were relatively large despite heavy rainfall in the past few days. ‘I had planned to shop for my family members today but it has been raining since morning. I was stuck in traffic for nearly an hour. Heavy rain is creating hurdles for us, yet we are trying to finish our shopping as the days are counting,’ Shopon Chowdhury, a university student, told this correspondent.
However, shop owners are not tensed as there have been huge flow of customers since the past week.
‘Despite huge traffic jam and sudden rain, customers are coming every day. We are hoping of a bigger crowd before Eid,’ Abul Kalam, owner of a clothing store at Sylhet Millenium Shoping City, told this correspondent.
Ahsanul Amin George from Khulna adds: With a little bit only one week more left for the Eid-Ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religions festivals of the Muslims, Khulna city has been caught by Eid shopping fever with modern and traditional shopping malls bustling with shoppers from all strata. Horrom, Shipon, Pagloo, Wara and soft silk Salwars and Kamizs are the most sold shopping items this year.
In Khulna city, thousands of people are purchasing items of their won choice with huge enthusiasm despite spiral of prices of all kinds of clothes that the last year.
Shop owners are selling their commons giving discount and all attractive advertisement Khulna city dwellers are purchasing different type of cloths . They are also buying homemade clothes.
Shop owners told this correspondent that sales were showing an upward trend since the last week.
Khulna New Market, Dukbanglow intersection Dukbanglow barobazar, Shahid Suhrawardi market, Jalil tower, safe and save meena Bazar, Daulatpur, and Khalishpur, market are crowded with people. Besides imitation jewelry fair has been going an in hotel Tiger garden.
Stock has been increased in khulna markets and sales men were also increased at different markets Salesman of different markets, foot paths makeshift sales centers are passing buys time from morning to mid-night as shopper of all ages are gathering. Their movement has created huge traffic congestion in the major shopping areas in the city.
Market sources said. the overall sale was much higher this year.
This correspondent found deployment of law enforcers at different points and market places and engagement of private security man at shopping malls by the authorities concerned have ultimately created a fool-proof security arrangement for business men as well as shoppers.
Azmal Sheikh, owner of Khulna Garments, a grandeur clothes importer said, their selling started after shab-e-barat of course, rainfall obstructs he added. He said adding that They started to collect Eid clothes four months ago. If Chinese clothes did not come prices of clothes would have gone beyond reaches of common people, he added.
Iftekhar Alam, Whole seller of cloths of Khulna Barobazar said, varieties of cloths are being sold in our shop. Sultana Ritu, a college student came to purchase clothes for her brother and sisters said, varieties of clothes have come this year and prices also have been increased. Three pieces are being sold at Khulna new market at Tk. 4000 to 35,000, She said Middle class people are gathering of footpaths and make shift shops. Some temporary shops were set of cityls Ferryghat, picture palace and ducklabanglow intercetion. Ashraful Alam, owners of chandni shares house at Khulna new market said, the products particularly salwar-kameez for girls, shoes, series with embroidery and stone work, Punjabi and shirts produced by local and fashion houses are attracting the customers.
The traders and salesman at different markets including Khulna New Market, Barobazar, Khalishpur Market,Daulatpur Market shopping malls and makeshift road side stalls had already gained momentum.
Shaila Sarmin, a housewife, resident of Sonadanga residential area said, Prices are high this year, despite, we are purchasing cloths for ourselves as well as our children.
Sabbir Hossain, Proprietor of fashion House said, selling of different cloths are good this year, particularly from the first day of the last week of the holy Ramzan.
Sonali Sen, additional deputy police commissioner (ADC) and also the spokesperson of the Media Wing of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) told the journalists that security measures were taken with a view to avert any untoward incident. She said adding that both uniformed and plainclothes policemen were deployed at all the markets in the city.
Md. Humayun Kabir, Police Commissioner of KMP told the journalists that the police administration is in strict position to maintain okay the law and order situation.
Wing Commander Hasan Emon Al Rajib, who joined recently as Commanding Officer (CO) at the Headquarter of Rab-6 Khulna told the journalists that the members of Rab have been patrolling regularly in the city with a view to avert any untoward situation ahead of Eid.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: With hardly nine days left for the Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Muslims, Rajshahi city has been caught by Eid shopping fever with modern and traditional shopping malls bustling with shoppers from all strata.
Thousands of people are purchasing items of their own choice with huge enthusiasm despite significant rise in prices of all kinds of clothes than the last year.
With attraction of eye-catching colour and design of the silk wears, large number of people irrespective of age and sex especially the adolescents are humming towards the showrooms to collect their best choice.
According to the sources concerned, silk wears valued at around Taka 30-35 crore are likely to be sold during the current Eid season.
Silk fabrics, weaved and designed by local artisans, are on huge demand in the Eid markets of the city, with the affluent people rushing to the city silk showrooms every day.
Movement of the shoppers has created huge traffic congestion in the major shopping areas. Shop owners told BSS that sales were showing an upward trend since the last couple of days.
Salesmen of different markets, footpaths, makeshift sales centers are passing busy time from morning to midnight as shoppers of all ages gathered there, they added.
Market sources said the overall sale was much higher this year because of further improvement in the economic condition of people from all classes.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Traffic Police sources said movement of thousands of battery-run auto-rickshaws has deteriorated the traffic situation here though the situation is so far better.
The RMP traffic department also blocked all intersections in front of all markets and shopping malls to ensure uninterrupted movement of vehicles.
“RMP has set up police boxes beside the gates of all busy markets and our police officials are sincerely making people aware about traffic system all the time,” the sources added.
Sekendar Ali, general secretary of RDA Market Businessmen Association, said he had not faced any untoward situation from the first day of Ramzan.
“The volume of sale is much higher this year.” Saidul Islam, owner of Laboni Saree Ghar at Rajshahi New Market, said the products particularly Salwar-Kameez for girls, shoes, sarees with embroidery and stone work, punjabi, and shirts produced by local fashion houses were attracting the customers.
The shopping places become jam-packed to wear festive looks daily since noon. Market sources said prices of the clothes for male, female and children were about 30 to 40 per cent higher than last year.
The Eid shoppers have been rushing mostly to RDA Market, New Market, Sonadighi Silk Market and other markets and shopping malls in the city.
The girls and adolescents are mostly purchasing three pieces of various designs like “Tumili’, “Chhanchhan”, “Ranjona”, and “AnarKoli”.
The buyers from the richer class are also selecting and purchasing their best choice whatever the price is while the middle and low-income groups are seen bargaining with the sellers.
Traders expressed happiness over sales and hoped that the selling will further increase.
