Eid shopping gets momentum in port city

Thousands of consumers are rushing to the markets and shopping places triggering record sales and business of Eid items in the city almost one week ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr festival. Leaders of business bodies said buyers are trying to complete their purchase of Eid items ahead of the holy aiming at avoiding last moment unbearable rush at hot and humid weather in Eid shopping centres.
As a result, Eid shopping has already reached at the peak now at bigger markets, shopping malls, complexes, and roadside and makeshifts markets amid tight security measures.
Selling already marked a record business following increase of incomes of common people.
The business places have worn festive looks with rushing men, women, adolescents, housewives, girls, boys, students and youths for buying items of own choice.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police control room sources said security measures and monitoring o the law and order situation have been tightened to enable common people marketing without untoward incidents in the city.
According to market sources, prices of clothes for males, females, babies and children are almost 30 to 40 percent higher this time than the previous year though the increased price has no impact on purchasing capacity of consumers.
Hundreds of Eid shoppers have been rushing daily to New Market, Afmi plaza, Yunusco Center, ‘Central plaza, Chattogram shopping complex, Sanmar Ocean City, Amin Center, Moti Complex, Rifles Club Market, Mimi Super Market, Gulzar Tower, Moti Tower, Jalsha Market, Alongkar Shopping Complex and others shopping centres in the city.
Talking to New Nation yesterday , rushing buyers at different city markets said they were purchasing clothes and other Eid items for babies, children, youths, males and females at much higher prices this time than the last year.
